Waterhouse Back In Town To Watch Pitcrew Win

Pitcrew delievered Gai Waterhouse a welcome home present with the narrowest of victories in the opening race at Warwick Farm on Saturday.

Back from her annual winter holiday, Waterhouse was delighted with the fighting qualities of Pitcrew, who managed to lift himself off the canvas to defeat Meteoros by a nose.

“He lost his momentum coming to the turn, the track is chopped and sticky but was able to fight back, I love that about this horse, he never gives up,” Waterhouse said.

Pitcrew is now undefeated after three starts and Waterhouse is still keen to keep him progressing towards the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens on September 14.

Meteoros, who had been backed from $8.50 to $6, looked certain to claim victory as he slipped away to a decent lead in the straight, only to tire late and be denied in the final stride.

Amovatio stalked Pitcrew throughout and ducked back to the inside in the straight but never really looked a threat to the top two, finishing third.
