Nostradamus To Stand At Rosemont Stud

Saturday’s explosive Group III SAJC  Irwin Stakes winner Nostradamus will get every chance at stud with a big group of heavy-hitter Victorian breeders in behind the son of Medaglia D’Oro.

Now an impressive winner of thee Group III races and a live chance in next month’s Group I SAJC Goodwood Handicap, the one-time Golden Slipper favourite boasts excellent credentials to make it at stud.

A $500,000 yearling and half brother to emerging stallion Star Witness, Rosemont Stud’s Anthony Mithen identified the horse late last year as just the right talent to add to the progressive farm’s stallion roster.

“He picked himself really. Behind Vancouver, he’s the second best performed colt son of Medaglia D’Oro in the Southern Hemisphere, a smashing sort, super precocious 2yo and trained on to win group races at three and four,”  Mithen said.

“And he’s not done yet. He holds entries for the Goodwood and the Stradbroke and Phillip Stokes is a master at having horses spot on for the right day. It wouldn’t surprise me if he picks one of them off given the form he’s hit.”

Nostradamus was a facile winner of his first start down the Flemington straight as a 2yo beating amongst others G1 winner Stratum Star. His first stakes win came just two weeks into his 3yo season when taking out the G3 San Domenico beating Wandjina, Law and Hampton Court.

Training on to win the G3 Gold Coast Guineas later in his 3yo year, his durability has been proven by another G3 victory on Saturday.

“He’s assured great support at stud given the way we have structured his management. Rosemont has bought Nostradamus but sold 20 breeding rights to some of the best breeders in Victoria including Musk Creek, Glentree, Princeton Stud, Robert Crabtree, Michael Christian, Rushton and Hollylodge. The list goes on, but it’s a great team. We have leased the horse for this prep to the rights holders, giving them all an instant return and a reason to hoot and holler!

“Given the structure, he already has a book of more than 60 mares, so we would encourage those interested in Nostradamus to contact us quick smart. While Vancouver is unachievable for most breeders at 60k, this bloke will be realistically priced at a fraction of that when we announce a fee next month,” Mithen said.

“Good looking, well performed, fast, well-bred horses work at stud. Look at the likes of I am Invincible, Hinchinbrook and Written Tycoon. Not a G1 win amongst them, but I’d be proud to have any of them.”
