Winners For 2014 Stan Fox Stakes Day

The Stan Fox Stakes meeting will be held at Rosehill this Saturday. The course proper was rated a Good 3 on Thursday and with overcast weather for the next couple of days in Sydney, Rosehill could border on Good/Dead on raceday.

Unbeaten Darley colt Sweynesse could start punters on their winning way in the Gloaming Stakes (Sydney Race 1, 1800m). The Lonhro 3YO won well last start in the Group 3 Spring Stakes over the mile coming from 3rd last to over-power the field. Sweynesse can handle any track condition and Kerrin McEvoy will once again drop the colt off the pace. Watch Sweynesse sprint down the straight strongly.

Chirs Waller has got the Colin Stephens Quality Handicap (Sydney Race 2, 2400m) well covered with 2 top chances, Secessio & Multilateral. Last start, Secessio has put up a great on pace effort coming across from a wide barrier in finishing 3rd in the Wyong Cup (2100m). The 6YO loves the Rosehill track winning 4 & placing 3 times from 10 starts at the venue. He also has a good record over 2400m having won twice & placed twice over the trip. Hugh Bowman stays onboard on Saturday & at $6.00 fixed odds, Secessio is a value bet.

Scissor Kick has the class & form to win the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (Sydney Race 5, 1500m). Scissor Kick won three on the trot before a mighty 2nd last start in the Group 1 Golden Rose. After doing tons of work out wide, Scissor Kick hit the front strongly only to be run down by the unbeaten Hallowed Crown. Drawn well in barrier 4 on Saturday, the Paul Messara-trained colt will get a cushy run and he’ll be hard to beat in the Stan Fox.

Top weight Catkins is extremely well weighted in the Golden Pendant (Sydney Race 7, 1400m). Catkins is a multiple Group winner & yet she has only been asked to carry 58kg in a race with a 54kg limit. She won her 1st up run in the Sheraco Stakes with a leg up in the air. The 5YO mare has a good record at the track & trip and she can handle any track condition. From barrier 6, Hugh Bowman will stalk the pace and she will simply be too strong for this field. Catkins will be short but she’ll be impossible to beat at the weight.
