Sir Dragonet Wins Cox Plate

Glen Boss rode his fourth Cox Plate winner when import Sir Dragonet burst through late to beat Northern Hemisphere-bred three-year-olds Armory and Russian Camelot at The Valley on Saturday.

Boss, who joined Hugh Bowman and Brent Thomson as four-time winners of the race, was a last-minute booking for the horse after Bowman opted to take his suspension this week.

The victory was also the first for Victorian racing’s emerging force Ciaron Maher and David Eustace.

Boss warned that the horse was only just starting to get warm at the line.

“He might be running in a Melbourne Cup and he might be running very well in one,” Boss said.
