Summary Of Our Trainers’ Tips For George Main Stakes Day (19th Sept)

From Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou

Horse: Standout
Message: (Saturday, Randwick Race 7, The Shorts) Things didn’t fall into place after he won first-up. We’ll see where he sits on Saturday. He appears to be going all right, he’s doing well in the feed bin and he’s working well. He’s drawn well (gate 4), there’s good speed in the race. He’ll be midfield sitting off them. He just had two nice getting him fit trials, he’s a big nice strong horse now. Certainly at home he looks and works as if he is back to what he can do. He gets a firm track underneath him, he’ll be hard to beat.

From Les Bridge

Horse: Classique Legend
Message: (Saturday, Randwick Race 7, The Shorts) I think he’s improved, he’s a lot stronger horse now than he was before last preparation. The five-year-old is significantly fitter for the Shorts, compared to the Bob Charley (1100m), a race he won in June. He won a trial at Newcastle three weeks ago and his work since then is exactly what the stable wants to see at the start of a big preparation. He’ll follow the same path as he did a year ago, progressing to the Premiere Stakes (1200m) in two weeks then the TAB Everest another two weeks later.

From John Sargent

Horse: Brandenburg
Message: (Saturday, Randwick Race 5, Bill Ritchie Hcp) The four-year-old, whose past five starts have been at Group 1 level, has Nash Rawiller on board for the first time on Saturday, Rawiller did ride in his recent trial and in his trackwork on Tuesday morning. Barrier 1 is a plus for Brandenburg. We won’t ride him to be in the trail, just where he’s happy, but he’s going to get a nice soft run because there should be a fair bit of speed in the race. It’ll be up to luck in the straight to get out and get at them.
