Snapchat Girl On Trial For Thousand Guineas In Melbourne

Talented filly Snapchat Girl will launch her spring campaign aimed at next month’s Group 1 Thousand Guineas at Caulfield when she resumes at Ipswich on Saturday.

Snapchat Girl will be chasing her fourth consecutive win in the CNE Concrete Pumping QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap (1200m).

The daughter of Lope De Vega hasn’t raced since beating a smart two-year-old field over 1600 metres at Doomben in July.

Trainer Les Kelly also has long range plans to target the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) next winter with Snapchat Girl.

“Our ultimate long-term goal is the Queensland Oaks,” Kelly said.

But first Kelly is hopeful Snapchat Girl will earn a trip to Melbourne for the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) on October 14.

“She has come back in great order and only had three weeks out of work so she should have some residual fitness for her first up run,” Kelly said.

“It’s only due to timing that she hasn’t had a jump out or trial to prepare for this race.

“I’m expecting Saturday’s race might be a shade short but I’m hoping to see her run a good race.

“If she runs well enough she’ll have another run here over 1400 metres at the Gold Coast which is a metropolitan meeting in two weeks then go down for the Thousand Guineas.”

Kelly, who returned to training just over a year ago after taking a 17-month break, has a back-up plan to target the Magic Millions at the Gold Coast in January if Snapchat Girl doesn’t head interstate.

“She’s eligible for the Magic Millions and there’s an 1800 metre race for three-year-olds which will suit her,” he said.

In latest UBET markets, Snapchat Girl is on the third line of betting at $7.50 behind hot favourite Miss Exfactor at $1.80.

Kelly rates Miss Exfactor as the main threat to Snapchat Girls’ hopes of extending her winning sequence.

Miss Exfactor was runner-up to Magic Millions Classic winner Houtzen on debut on March 4.

She then proved too strong for Shogun Son, who is in Sydney for Saturday’s Group 1 Golden Rose at Rosehill, when successful over 1200 metres at the Gold Coast on March 18.

The daughter of Your Song showed she was forward in condition when she easily won a 1050-metre barrier trial at Deagon earlier this month.
