Winners For This Saturday’s Sydney Racing At Rosehill (16th Jan)

This Saturday’s Sydney meeting will be held at Rosehill Gardens. The course proper was rated a Soft 5 on Thursday and with fine and warm weather in Sydney leading up to the weekend, Rosehill will be racing on a Good track on raceday.

The very consistent Tailleur is the one to beat in the Sky Racing Active Handicap (Sydney Race 2, 1100m). This Godolphin-owned 4YO mare has won four times and placed twice from six career starts. She had won at Rosehill before and has won twice at 1100m. With a fair bit of pace in the race, Kerrin McEvoy is going to settle just behind the leaders and Tailleur looks too strong for these lot.

The Bjorn Baker-trained He’s A Hotshot has finished in the top three in four of the five races he contested this campaign. His only failure came when stepping up to a 1400m event so the 1200m of the Schweppes Handicap would really suit (Sydney Race 5, 1200m). The gelding has a good record over the six fulong with two wins and 5 placings at the trip. The drying condition will also suit as all four of his career victories came on Good tracks. From barrier 6, the in-form Rachel King will go forward and sit just behind likely leader Liberty Sun. And if He’s A Hotshot can steal a break in the straight, he could be hard to catch.

There’s a lot to like about the Chris Waller-trained Tycoonist in the Ranvet Handicap (Sydney Race 7, 1300m). Good win two starts back at Canterbury having displayed good tactical speed. He can certainly handle the 1300m and the drying track will benefit  him. The 3YO gelding is rock hard fit being 4th up on Saturday and he has only been allotted the limit weight of 54kg. From barrier 8, Tommy Berry could go straight to the front and control the pace. Tycoonist could prove hard to run down.
