Winners For San Domenico Stakes Day

The San Domenico meeting will be held at Rosehill this Saturday. Rosehill was rated a Dead 5 on Thursday and with light showers forecast for the next few days, the track is likely to remain in the Dead range on raceday.

The PB Lawrence Stakes will be held at Caulfield this weekend. Caulfield was rated a Dead 5 on Thursday and the forecast is for more showers over the next couple of days so the track could end up in the Dead/Slow range on raceday.

Last start winner Reigning could make it back to back race win in the Dooley’s BM95 Handicap (Sydney Race 3, 1800m). The Chris Waller-trained 6YO won over this trip last start at Kensington on a Dead 5 track. Reigning enjoys a bit of give in the ground and will get conditions to suit on Saturday. From the inside barrier (1), James McDonald will be able enjoy a cushy run by settling Reigning just off the pace on the fence. He’ll have plenty of petrol left to let down strongly in the home straight.

Weinholt broke through for a Sydney win last start over 1400m at Randwick and could be the horse to beat in the CLUBsNSW Handicap (Sydney Race 4, 1200m). Dropping back in distance on Saturday after a five week break looks ideal. Weinholt has a good record over 1200m and he has won twice & placed twice on Dead Track. Weinholt is good value at $6.50 fixed odds.

Team Hawkes has 3YO Nostradamus primed to win the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes first up (Sydney Race 5, 1100m). The Medaglia d’Oronn colt had done his 2YO racing exclusively in Melbourne. Nostradamus looked sharp with a 760m trial win on Monday running 47.01sec. Drawn beautiful in barrier 4, James Mcdonald has plenty of options on where to settle the colt. Nostradamus looks the horse to beat in the San Domenico.

Chris Waller can claim another Group 2 victory with Foreteller in the PB Lawrence Stakes (Melbourne Race 8, 1400m). Though his best distance will be over ten furlongs, jockey Hugh Bowman believes Foreteller can sprint well fresh after ridden him in a 1250m Randwick trial. The gelding has won at 1400m before and he has shown that he can handle Caulfield having won twice at the track. He is also proven at WFA racing. Foreteller is pretty good value at $7.00 in the fixed odds market.
