Carrington Stakes Headlines This Weekends Randwick Races

Having been beaten a lip in the Magic Millions Cup, the Annabel Neasham-trained Holyfield spearheads the nominations, as black type racing returns to Sydney.

Going down in a photo finish to Magic Millions Day specialist Eleven Eleven, Holyfield could return to Sydney, where he was a track and trip winner prior to his Queensland expedition.

Nominated to join the four-year-old gelding is stable mate and Magic Millions QTIS winner Wisdom Of Water. The son of Headwater could line up in search of securing a hat-trick of wins – which would include his first at Randwick.

Another runner who is nominated to return south from their successful Queensland stint, is last season’s Mid North Coast “Horse Of The Year” Charmmebaby.

Victor of the Brisbane Handicap, the five-year-old mare found the line strongly in her next start in the Listed Bernborough Plate, beaten just under a length by Kubrick.

The Bjorn Baker-trained speedster Prime Candidate is another nominee and will be looking to build on from his win in the Listed Christmas Classic at Canterbury a fortnight ago.

After a year away from the track, comeback galloper Through The Cracks returned in impressive fashion when attacking the line for third in behind Prime Candidate.

Out of Angela Davies’ Gosford stables, the former Provincial Championships winner is determined to land a black type victory next to his name after falling short in the 2020 Group 2 Villiers Stakes.

Champion trainer Chris Waller won’t be without a winning chance, with first-up winner True Detective nominated, as well as Group 3 Newcastle Gold Cup placegetter No Compromise, who has been readied for a return and is dual-nominated in the 1600m Benchmark (BM) 88. Also nominated in the BM 88 are stablemates Criminal Code, Wairere Falls, Yiyi and last start winner Kingsheir.

The Randwick surface is currently rated a Good 4 with the rail to be in the eight-metre position.
